Are antidepressants a cure for depression?
In the article "Health Year in Review: 2008," the ineffectiveness of antidepressants were brought to light. It has been found that the ineffectiveness of an antidepressant is rarely made public. Otherwise when antidepressants are found to be effective, reseachers work to exaggerate the data. All this leads to one question, why is depression treated with medications? If depression is an mental illness, then how can a medication cure an emotional ailment? In my opinion, depression would be best treated by psychological therapy. Therapy for the emotions of the mind seems like a better way to treat depression versus taking a medication. The ineffectiveness of antidepressants are surely evident and they are equally as effective as placebos. This shows that the thought behind the medicine is the cure. If thought is the cure, then what is a better treatment than going to psychological therapy to use logic and think about how to resolve depression?

Although I disagree with this post, I found it very interesting. You made your opinion of the topic very clear, but I think you should have had a little more scientific proof. Good job!
Hm. Like erica, I still think antidepressants can affect one's mood to a certain extent. It may not be the cure, but imo it definitely helps treat depression. Great job on having a straightforward opinion =)
you make a good point. I guess in this world, medications are just more likely and affordable than therapy. But I agree with you that medications shouldn't be used to treat a mental problem.
I think that medication should be used as a last resort and even then should not be the only method of treatment. Masking the symptoms is not a cure.
You have a very strong opinion and make a well-constructed argument, but I don't think that antidepressants should be shunned completely. As Steven said, antidepressants in some cases are more economically viable than seeking professional therapy. Overall, however, you did a great job voicing your opinion.
I disagree with allowing anti-depressant as the primary treatment option for people. I believe that to fix the problem for the long-term would to through the use of therapy. But overall, good work and analysis.
